The Manatee County animal shelter in Florida will be offering free cat adoptions throughout the month of June in order to help improve the rates at which cats find homes and decrease the problem of animal overpopulation, according to a new report from the Birmingham Mail.
June is Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month, sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Many animal organizations will be doing something special to commemorate the month.
The Manatee animal shelter usually charges about $60 for animal adoption. This fee will be waved for anyone who comes in in the month of June. Manatee aims to be a no-kill animal rescue
The Humane Society recommends that people follow certain guidelines before adoption, such as making sure that each person in the home is mentally prepared to welcome the cat. There are currently more than 93 million household cats throughout the United States.
